South Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats have been left with egg on their face.
The Lib Dems voted to introduce a Cambridge congestion charge for cars of £5 per day, with funds raised going towards improved bus services. Yet Stagecoach, a major bus provider in the city, has announced bus service cuts.
With the congestion charge making driving more expensive, and now a bus shortfall, the Lib Dems’ plans to revolutionise transport in Cambridge seem to have fallen flat.
Cllr Heather Williams, Leader of the Conservative group, responded to the mess by saying that “buses might just not be the answer to everything”.
