Conservative leader: Delay the Waterbeach busway to save our history

Conservative group leader Cllr Heather Williams has spoken out to save historic Waterbeach cottages from an intrusive new £55m busway.

 

The busway, proposed by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP), would connect Waterbeach New Town with Cambridge.

 

But the proposed route for the busway would run straight through historic Waterbeach cottages, effectively drawing a tarmac curtain across local British history.

 

Responding to over 1,700 people who petitioned against the busway, Cllr Williams said the proposals “should not go forward” without further consultation.

 

Cllr Williams added that “we’re dealing with people’s emotions and it’s important we take them with us”.
