In March, South Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats voted to extend its 4-day working week trial by 12 months. This involves approximately 450 desk-based staff, who will receive full-time pay for four days’ work.
Cllr Graham Cone, Deputy Leader of the Conservative group, questioned why residents have not been allowed their say on the 4-day week. Cllr Cone also argued it was unfair that the majority of councillors had not been given the chance to debate the trial at meetings.
South Cambridgeshire’s Conservative MP Anthony Browne also criticised how residents are enduring “one of the highest council tax rates in the country” to pay for council employees to have an extra day off.
