A £93.4 million contract has been awarded to build the new Cambridge South train station, creating a faster route to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The Cambridge South station will connect the Campus – home to Addenbrooke’s and Royal Papworth hospitals – with places including central London, Stansted Airport, Ely and Europe.
The new station represents a welcomed investment in effective public transport for Cambridgeshire, cutting journey times for local people.
Construction by J Murphy & Sons Ltd will deliver a two-storey, four-platform station adjacent to the growing Biomedical Campus – providing important transport links for businesses and workers.
The new station forms part of the proposed East West Rail route connecting Cambridge and Oxford – which itself is set to unlock £103bn of growth.
Initial works have already begun, with the current completion date for the station planned for 2025.
