Cllr Dr Shrobona Bhattacharya is a Microbiology graduate and did her PhD research in Biological Sciences and worked in various Russell Group universities in the UK and ICMR labs, National Innovation Foundation in India, Pharmaceuticals etc.
Shrobona founded many government-registered organisations in the Scotland, Northern Ireland and England since her arrival in the UK.
Shrobona was elected District Councillor for Cambourne in 2016 - the first Indian Hindu District Councillor elected in South Cambs - and was re-elected in 2022.
As a community builder, and a mother of two children Shrobona leads on building external partnerships and collaborations to support local community engagement, with a focus in South Cambridgeshire.
In 2023,
(1) Shrobona was invited to 10 Downing Street at the Prime Minister’s residence and was acknowledged as the Community Champion by the Prime Minister,
(2) Shrobona received the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire Award for her contribution towards Diversity and Inclusion.
(3) Her Charity won the best STEM initiative for the Youth Development in the Cambridgeshire region hosted by Cambridge Independent.
(4) Shrobona is short-listed for NHS’s Health Inequality Prize for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, due to her contribution for the elderly residents being a part of the NHS’s Social Prescription.
Shrobona contributes to wider projects and strategies across the Northern Ireland, Scotland, UAE, India and several European countries for skills enhancement, fundraising, community engagement, knowledge exchange, and policies and initiatives for an inclusive Community through her Trusts and Charities.
Shrobona developed extensive experience in the communities, focusing on initiatives which created platforms for under-represented groups, widening participation across the communities, tackling loneliness and liaising with local government on development for the young and elders through digitalisations.
Politically, Shrobona will be working on the policy-making on STEM education and STEM Employment through the new CPF (Conservative Policy Forum). She is the ambassador for small businesses in the St. Neots region, and she wants to make two Conservatives Friends of:
(1) Conservatives Friends of STEM, Technology and Innovation
(2) Conservative Friends of Hindu
